(Leckrone) Cochran. On August 19, 1945, she married Herrell Buckalew, and he preceded her in death on November 29, 2014. She was born October 17, 1925, in Converse, to John D. and Altha M. (Leckrone) Cochran. On August 19, 1945, she married Herrell Buckalew, and he preceded her in death on November 29, 2014. Dortha was a homemaker but also worked at Krieg’s Restaurant and one year at Delco. She was a devoted mother and cared for her daughter, Peggy Lynn, with tireless love and tenderness. She was an avid Pacer fan and square dancer, and she enjoyed bingo, camping and taking rides in the country. She was a former member of Omega Phi Tau and the YWCA Board. Survivors include five children, Rita Sue Crites, Kokomo, Beth Ann (Jerry) Davis, Russiaville, Bonnie Jo (Terry) Smith, Kokomo, Mark Galen (Jamie) Buckalew, Kokomo, and James Kent Buckalew, Port Richey, Florida; sixteen grandchildren, Julie Fontenot, David Boring, Nicholas Crites, Greg (Amy) Davis, Jessica (Jay) Johnson, Brittany Davis, Jeremy (Katie) Davis, Justin (Lee Ann) Smith, Molly (Gabe) Shively, Lindsay Buckalew, Christine Buckalew, Trevor Buckalew, Breann Buckalew, Justin Mills, Jocee Buckalew and Jessica Buckalew; 22 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Bobbie Mullett, Pat Cole and Janet Hyatt. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; beloved daughter, Peggy Lynn Buckalew; her twin sister and two other sisters; and an infant brother. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo, with Steve Cole officiating. Entombment will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Dortha’s name to Riley Hospital for Children. Messages of condolence may be expressed online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
