Hornburg was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, May 14, 1848, and died at her home in Seward county, Nebraska, July 1, 1924, aged 76 years, 1 month and 17 days. With her parents she came to America in 1868. They took a homestead on Lincoln Creek at Marysville. Dora remained for a short time at Nebraska City, which was then the nearest trading point. She passed through all of those hardships incident to pioneer life. On January 1, 1870, she was united in marriage to Fred C. Hartman, a young homesteader near her father's farm. To this union were born seven children, six sons and one daughter. The daughter, Florence, passed away August 30, 1914. The sons all reside in Seward county. For nearly five years she had been an invalid but has borne her suffering, which has been intense at times, with patience and fortitude, being cared for tenderly by her family. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, 6 sons, 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, besides other relatives and a host of friends. In childhood she was confirmed in the Lutheran church but has been broad and generous in her faith, being at home in any church. Funeral services were held from the home on Thursday afternoon, July 3, by Rev. Lewis Townsend of the M. E. church of Seward officiating. Interment was made in the north (Seward) cemetery.
