Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 10 in the Lodgepole United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lyle Schoen officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Lodgepole.Dorthy Ellen Theis was born in Oto, Iowa on August 9, 1912, the daughter of James and Susan (Elser) Irwin. Her family moved to Cheyenne County in 1914, residing north and east of Colton. Dorothy attended District 39, graduating from the 8th grade. Dorthy married Lester Theis in Beatrice, Neb. on November 9, 1937. They lived in the Sunny Side community until the death of her husband in 1996. Dorthy moved to Lodgepole where she resided until her death. Dorthy was a homemaker, working and cooking early in her life for neighbors and preparing meals for threshing crews for $2.00 a week. Later, many a Sunny Side kid relished her homemade bread and cinnamon rolls. Dorthy crocheted afghans for each child, receiving blankets at birth and afghans for each grandchild?s graduation, and receiving blankets for each great-grandchild. She was a member for many years of the Sunny Side Helping Hand Club, a 50 plus year member of the Lodgepole United Methodist Church and its Auxiliary, and an active member of the Lodgepole Senior Citizens. Lester and Dorthy were honored as Old Settlers King and Queen in 1986. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Doris Theis of Osceola, Neb.; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Richard Teague of Lodgepole; a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Marcia Theis of Grand Island, Neb.; a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Terry Acton of Beatrice, Neb.; a sister, Ethel Irwin of Demming, N.M.; six grandsons, four granddaughters and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant daughter, her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
