Cox, 79, of Columbia City, entered heaven at 7:26 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010. She was born Dec. 13, 1930 in Union Township, Whitley County, a daughter of George Cecil and Gladys Fern (Traster) Crawford. Her formative years were spent in Union and Columbia townships. She graduated from Coesse High School in 1948. On Jan. 30, 1950 she was united in marriage to Eldon E. Cox. They made their home in Cleveland Township and later Jefferson Township before moving to Aboite Township, Allen County. In 1957 they moved to a farm in Washington Township, Whitley County. Following the death of Mr. Cox on Sept. 18, 1979, Dot moved into Columbia City. In 1989 she returned to Washington Township until 2006 when she moved back into Columbia City. She was a deputy clerk for the Whitley County Clerk's office from 1948 to 1949, worked at Columbia Grain for three years and retired as dietary manager from Miller's Merry Manor in 1993 with 25 years of service. Her memberships include First Church of God and Certified Dietary Managers Association. Surviving relatives include six children, DiAnna (Larry) Weiss and Barbara King, both of Columbia City, Jude Cox McCartney of Evanston Ill., Beverly (Jeffery) Middleton of Kingwood Texas, Richard "Ritter" (Conni) Cox and Janelle (Scott) Smith, both of Columbia City; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; three brothers, Cecil Crawford Jr. of Loon Lake, Dick Crawford of Columbia City and John Crawford of Zellwood Fla.; and three sisters, Betty Lawrence of Columbia City, Donnabelle Comer of Fort Wayne and Mary Lou Pittenger Lehman of Columbia City. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Phil Crawford, Gerald Crawford and Jack Crawford. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. For those who wish, memorials may be made to Bear Lake Church of God Camp or Parkview Home Health & Hospice.
