Description	:	Douglas Andrew Bowen Sr. of 124 Shannon Lake Circle, died July 19, 2001, at Richard Campbell Veteran's Nursing Home in Anderson. Formerly of Piedmont, he wasthe son of the late Walter A. and Mae White Bowen. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Burrell Bowen; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Wayne Bateman, of Greenville; and a son, Douglas A. Bowen Jr., of Marietta. Surviving also are three granddaughters, Audrey Bateman of Charleston, Caroline and Sarah Bateman of Greenville; and a grandson, Andrew Bateman, of Greenville. He was predeceased by a brother, W. Kenneth Bowen. He was a member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and was active in the Christian Education Department. He was an Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict, and also served in the U.S. Merchant Marine. In addition, he was a member of the American Legion, Post No. 184. A graduate of Clemson College, he was widely known in the textile industry as an Editor with Textile World Magazine, Chief Editor with Textile Industries Magazine, and was Founder/Publisher of Textile Marketing/Technology Magazine. He was employed by Clemson University until his retirement. Visitation: 2 to 3:15 p.m. Sunday, July 22, at St. Giles Presbyterian Church Parlor, 1021 Hudson Road, Greenvile. Service: 3:30 p.m. immediately following visitation at St. Giles Presbyterian Church. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association of the Upstate, 114 E. Earle St., Anderson, SC 29621-5602; or St. Giles Scholarship Endowment Fund, 1021 Hudson St., Greenville, SC 29615. The family is at the residence. — Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown.
