Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the First Assembly of God Church in Waukesha, Wis. and 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12 at the Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma, Iowa with Rev. Verne Hagenbeck officiating both services. Visitation was held at Watts Funeral Home on Sept. 12. Memorials are appreciated to the family in Doug's name so they can determine a charity at a later date. Doug was born on June 18, 1955 i Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Lester and LaRetta Jacobs Baird. He attended Montezuma Community High School in Montezuma, where he graduated with the class of 1973. On Sept. 21, 1975, Doug was united in marriage to Ms. Doll in Montezuma. The Bairds made their home in Florida and South Carolina prior to settling in Waukesha. From this union two children were born. After earning a degree from Upper Iowa University, Doug pursued a career in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard, attaining the level of Lieutenant Colonel and retiring after 21 years. Presently, he served as a Retirement Specialist Solutions. The Bairds are members of the First Assembly of God Church where they participated in fellowship groups ad were preparing to become group leaders. Doug loved playing games, telling stories, and visiting with family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors doing a variety of things. Doug traveled extensively, ad he and his wife enjoyed road trips on their Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Doug ended his life doing something he loved, riding the Harley. He Continues to travel and impact lives through organ donation. Doug is survived by his wife; his two children; his father, Lester Baird, of Montezuma, four sisters; two brothers; his mother-in-law, Donna Grife and her husband;his other in-laws; his aunt, Verna Baird of Montezuma; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and may friends.
