He was born April 27, 1928, in Hays to Ernest Edward and Ida Phyllis (Loflin) Egger. He married Betty Armbruster on Feb. 13, 1954. She preceded him in death April 9, 1996. He was born April 27, 1928, in Hays to Ernest Edward and Ida Phyllis (Loflin) Egger. He married Betty Armbruster on Feb. 13, 1954. She preceded him in death April 9, 1996. He later married Rose Mary Rupp on Nov. 29, 1997, in Ellis. He was a 1947 graduate of Ellis High School. He was a retired farmer and stockman. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Ellis, lifetime member of the Ellis Veterans of Foreign Wars, former Golden Belt Co-op board member, and a member of the Sunflower Polka Club. He enjoyed auctions, antiquing, his family and family events. Survivors include his wife, Hays; two daughters, Renee Rupp and husband, Dave, Hays, and Raimy Hester and husband, Keith, Hutchinson; a stepson, Kevin O’Rourke, Hays; five grandchildren, Travis Rupp and wife, Kristin, Jeff Rupp and wife, Deanna, and Dallas Rupp, all of Hays, Brooke Hothan, Lawrence, and Megan Hester, Hutchinson; and eight great-grandchildren, Brynlee, Bennett, Colten, Veya, Allie, Addison, Brantley and Ridge. He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepson, Sean O’Rourke. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Christ Lutheran Church, Ellis; burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis, with military honors. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th, Ellis, KS 67637, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church or Special Olympics in care of funeral chapel. Hays Daily News, 3/24/2017
