A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 29, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton. The Rev. Jim Gruber will officiate. Private family inurnment will be in the Salem Cemetery. Douglas James Troester, the son of Melvin Paul and Wynona (Carlson) Troester, was born at York, Neb., on Dec. 23, 1951, and passed away in Omaha, Neb., on July 25, 2016, at the age of 64. Doug grew up in Hampton and graduated from Hampton High School in 1970. He was a very talented baseball and football player. Doug attended Kearney College for a year. Doug returned to the family farm to farm with his father. In 1974, Doug married Coral Wegner. They had two children: Gabriel and Kylie. They made their home in Central City. Later on, Doug owned and operated his own over-the-road truck. In 1994, Doug married Vickie Severn and they made their home in Glenwood, Iowa. Doug was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. He was a 35-year friend of Bill Wilson, A.A. Founder. Doug collected tools and many other useful items. He enjoyed creating a landscape for his yard and doing all the work it took to make it look nice. He was preceded in death by his father; younger brother, Gary; and two infant siblings. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his mother, Noni Troester of Hampton; two children, Gabriel Troester of Glenwood, Iowa, and Kylie (Mike) Way of Hastings; three grandchildren, Bailey, Tristan and Tragen, all of Hastings; sister, Damaris (Mark) Olsen of Hampton; brother, Dallas (Kate) Troester of Aurora; and several nieces and nephews.
