Description	:	Douglas Michael "Mike" Scott, 66, a longtime resident of Leavenworth, died Friday Jan. 16, 2009 as a result of an extended illness at Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth with his family by his side. Doug was born in Everett, WA in 1942. Read More	Douglas Michael "Mike" Scott, 66, a longtime resident of Leavenworth, died Friday Jan. 16, 2009 as a result of an extended illness at Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth with his family by his side. Doug was born in Everett, WA in 1942. His childhood years were spent in Okanogan where his sister Mary, Jennifer and Jeanne played with his cousins, Jimmy, Mark, Patty and Marilyn in his Uncle Chuck and Aunt Jean's yard. He attended school in Mallott and Okanogan, graduating from Okanogan High School. During his high school years, he worked for his Dad's plumbing and electrical business and started his apprentice funeral directorship at Barnes Funeral Chapel in Okanogan. During the summers, he worked for the Forest Service in Winthrop as a fire guard. He attended the University of Washington and Wenatchee Valley College, graduating with an AA degree. While attending college he continued his funeral director's apprenticeship first at Betts Funeral Home and then at The Chapel of the Valley in East Wenatchee. In 1963, he married Kay Cedarquist, (the love of his life) and moved to the Leavenworth area where they made their lifelong home and raised their children, Danny, Terri and David. Doug was a loving husband and father. He drew strengths in challenging times from the teachings of his father, Doyne while attending the Gospel Hall in Okanogan. As he settled into the Upper Valley, he worked for Peshastin Lumber and Box in Peshastin, Vandoren Sales in Wenatchee, Lloyd Ward Construction, Jones and Jones Funeral Home and Cascade Ambulance where he also taught EMT classes. He managed the Upper Valley 911 Emergency Dispatch Center, worked for Cascade Medical Center and the City of Leavenworth. He served on the Peshastin Cemetery Board. But the job he cherished most of all was working for Wards Funeral Chapel with his best friends Jim and Wilda Ward and in the last years with his son Danny. Doug loved his children, Danny, Terri and David and as each child married he welcomed the addition of a new son, Stephen and two new daughters, Meredith and Joylene. But when his granddaughter Amanda and his two grandsons Duncan and Dylan arrived, they became the true joys of his life. He was also a special part of his sisters and sister-in-laws lives as he helped them grow. His most cherished times were spent with his family celebrating holidays and birthdays. His other loves were fishing with family and friends. He let nothing stand in his way when one of his children or grandchildren participated in sports activities. He always attended when his health permitted. He loved his summer motorcycle trips with his sons, his friends Kenny and Neil and cousin, Sonny. He collected jeeps; some of them were even drivable. He loved working with wood, first rebuilding the family home after it burned and then making furniture for Kay. Fall was his favorite time of year but he loved his summer shrimping, fishing and boating trips in Kermit (the family boat). He also loved traveling by car to Canada, visiting special friends and staying at Eagle Lake. A Funeral Service of Commemoration to Celebrate the Life of Douglas Michael "Mike" Scott will be held on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Ward's Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth with Pastor Roger Hudson Officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, Jan. 23, 2009 at Ward's Funeral Chapel from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and at the conclusion of the service. Memorial contributions may be made in Doug's name to the Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth is in charge of the arrangements.
