Doyle died Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen. Doyle F. Gossman was born on December 12, 1922, to Fred and Nellie (Meuret) Gossman at Orchard, Neb. His family moved to Lemmon, S.D., when he was a young man. He graduated from Lemmon High School. After high school, Doyle married Adrian Barbara Ann. They had six children together. Doyle married Caroline Mishaw on November 20, 1981, at Aberdeen, S.D. Doyle worked for the railroad for ten years and then bought the beer business, Doyle's Interstate Beverage Company, which operated in South Dakota and North Dakota. He then expanded his business to Mobridge and Eureka, S.D., which he sold in the early 80s. For the last 17 years he owned and operated Gossman Golf Cars in Aberdeen, through which he made a lot of long time friends. Doyle was a sports enthusiast all of his life. He played and excelled at baseball from a very early age. Doyle was an excellent pitcher in the state line league for years and was affectionately called "Pappy" by his teammates and friends. In his later years he was affectionately called "Pa." He personally knew some of the Minnesota Twins and continued to follow them to his last day. Doyle also loved golf. He played and competed whenever and wherever he could. Doyle will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. We will all miss his sense of humor and his kind and generous nature. He was always willing to help anyone without a second thought and would make a joke at the perfect time to brighten anyone's day. Some of the fondest memories his grandchildren have are the trips to Donut City, the horse races, going to get ice cream, and all the other places Pa took us as kids. The greatest part about those memories is that they were not just treats for the kids, but all the above were also treats for him. Pa loved telling stories, the horse races, and of course, he had to have his daily dose of sugar, ice cream, donuts, and grandma's burnt cookies that were burnt especially to his liking. He loved them all. Most people say an apple a day keeps the doctor away, well not Pa, it was a donut a day keeps the doctor away. You will be greatly missed Pa! We know that you are now golfing on greener grasses. Grateful for having shared Doyle's life are his wife, Caroline Gossman of Aberdeen, three daughters: Diane (Dave) Martinez of Harveyville, Kan., Patti (Kevin) Benson of Lemmon, S.D., and Barbara Susan of Shelby, Ind.; stepdaughter Karie (Harlen) Pauley of Sioux Falls, S.D.; his sons: Lloyd (Lois) Gossman of Ketchikan, Alaska, Frank (Marcy) Gossman of Glassport, Pa., Richard (Carol "Winky") Gossman of Papillion, Neb.; two stepsons: Mark (Lori) Mishaw of Richmond Lake, S.D., and Kevin LaRocque; 21 grandchildren: Ed (Kristi) Clark, Jim (Carol) Gossman, Tony (Kristie) Gossman, Hillary Gossman, Adrienne Gossman, Lydia Gossman, Caitlin Gossman, Jon Martinez, Lisa (Lonnie) Adams, Vanessa (John) Keller, Chantz Dirk, Preston Dirk, Emily Benson, Mathew Lothian, Patrick Lothian, Jon (Jennifer) Christman, Sara (Jim) Kolb, David Kolb, Tara Kolb, Alisha (Jon) Kaufman and their children Mackenzie Kaufman, Jazmyn Kaufman, and Dominique Kaufman, Justin Pauley, Cody Johnson; 16 great-grandchildren; and his son Stacy Gossman of Aberdeen. He will also be greatly missed by his extended family including: Jon Smith, Leonard and Pauline Grajczyk, Jacob, Josh, Rob, Bob, Deloris, Ruby, Judy and Dwight; all of the staff at Aberdeen Ambulance, which includes: Felicia, Tami, Joe, Tina, Trent, Doug, Sandy, Dan, Jerilyn, Blaine Chad, and Chastity; all of the staff at J Gross Equipment, which includes: Joe and Candy, Mike and Barb, Dell and Cathy, Anton and Shelly, Glenn and Lyla, Violet, John and Brenda, Tina and Dennis, Antonia and John, Jerad, and Josh; all of the staff at Big Fella's, which includes: Tami, Justin and Darby, Chantel, Kristi, Jimmy, Carol, and Crystal; all of the staff at Rite Way Vending, which includes: Mike and Shayna, Rick and Kathy, Kenny and Jean, Travis and April and Paul and Amber; all of the staff at Bar N, which includes: Becky, Nancy, Hazel, Darlene, and Gert; all of the staff at Humphries Construction, which includes: Darrell and Kathy, and Ordean and Jeanie; and all of the staff at Midwest Pest and Lier Trucking, which includes: Kevin and Jeanne, and Jay and Bobby. If we neglected to mention you, we are sorry, we have a lot on our minds. Please accept our apologies and know that you are in our hearts. Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Nellie Gossman, daughter Barbara Susan Lothian, brother, Lloyd Gossman, his first wife, Adrian Barbara Ann, and his three dogs: Beavis, Taylor, and Brandy.
