Read More	The News Journal, Thursday March 20, 1930, No 32, Page 2, Column 2 and 3 Dr. Alex Shively -- 90 Dr. Alexander Shively died at the home of his son, Dr. O. H. Shively on Central Avenue in this city, Saturday morning, March 15, at the advanced age of ninety years, eleven months and fifteen days, having been born in this county March 31, 1839. Dr. Shively had been in gradually declining health for the past several months, and his death resulted from infirmities due to extreme age. Up until a few weeks ago, when his decline became more rapid, Dr. Shievly was a familiar figure on the streets of the city, and kept up remarkably well for one of his age. Dr. Shively was twice married, his first wife having been Miss Elia Jane Massie, to whom he was married at Cane Valley fifty-nine years ago, and who preceded him to the grave in June, 1894. In 1899, he was married to Miss Annie Miller, of this county, who died at Burdick in 1901. Although a native of this county and having spent most of his life within its bounds he followed his profession for a time in Greensburg, coming to this city to make his home about eleven years ago. During his life, Dr. Shively was one of the outstanding physicians in this section of the state and kept abreast of his profession until declining years forced him to retire from active practice. He not only stod high in his profession, but as a public spirited citizen and a Christian man. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church, and lived a consistent Christian life, and took an active part in the church work so long as his health permitted. Though his advanced age had kept him more or less closely confined during the immediate past, he was a man who will be greatly missed, and leaves a large circle of friends throughout the county who will regret his passing. During the Civil War, the deceased served with the Union Army with distinction, and was one of the few remaining veterans of that war in the county. He is survived by one son, Dr. O. H. Shively of this city, and one granddaughter, Mrs. Raymond Evans, of Louisville. Funeral services were conducted from the Campbellsville Baptist Church Sunday, March 16, conducted by the pastor Rev. J. L. Robinson, assisted by Rev. Alfred Erickson, pastor of the Presbyterian church. The interment was held in the cemetery in Cane Valley in the family lot. The following friends of the family served as pall bearers: R. W. Wilson, Eugene Rice, William Moore, James Buchanan, Dr. J. L. Atkinson, of this city, and J. L. Wilson, of Greensburg. Among the friends and relatives from out of town who attended the funeral Sunday were: Mr. and Mrs. Edward Shively and daughter, Mr. Braxton Massie, and Ben Chewning, of Columbia; Mr. J. W. Sweeney, Lancaster; Mr. and Mrs. Brummel Penick, Dr. Booker, and Messrs. Woodson Lewis, Sr., Woodson Lewis, Jr., and Theodore Leachman, of Greensburg. A large number of beautiful floral designs attested the love and respect of sorrowing friends.
