| Description | : | Anson G. Henry was a close friend and personal doctor to Abraham Lincoln. He served as writer and editor of several newspapers including a Whig paper called The Old Soldier as a fellow editor with Lincoln. He attended Mrs. Lincoln after the President's assassination, but left town after an unsuccessful attempt to be appointed commissioner of Indian affairs. On July 30, 1865, a storm caused the Brother Jonathan to strike a submerged rock on St. George Reef off Crescent City, California. Of the 244 on board only 19 survived. |
