Dr. Smith died Saturday. Burial will be in the Old St. Joseph's Cemetery in Iowa City, Iowa. Local arrangements are under the direction of Becker Funeral Home. A wake service will be at 6:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home chapel. He was born October 31, 1928 in Iowa City, Iowa. He married Helen Lathem on October 30, 1954 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She died October 20, 1996. He married Thelma Regan on November 26, 2000 in Lawton. Dr. Smith received his bachelor of music degree from the College of Music of Cincinnati in 1951 with a major in composition and theory and minors in voice, piano and organ. He received his master's degree from the Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati in 1956 and his Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma in 1976. He moved to Dallas, Texas in 1956 and took over directorship of the famed Christ the King Boys Choir. Dr. Smith came to Lawton in 1969 where he was a professor of music at Cameron University. He was the choir director at Holy Family Catholic Church for fifteen years. Survivors include his wife, of the home, two daughters, Elizabeth Smith, Lawton and Jamie Ann Stacey, Seattle, Washington, seven step children and their spouses, Tom Regan, James and Beverly Regan, all of Lawton, Michael and Nancy Regan, Cache, Carol and Timothy Daniel Virginia, John and Gaudie Regan, Maryland, Teresa and Terry Johnson, Lawton and Paul and Stephanie Regan, Yukon, thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 1010 NW 82nd Street, Lawton, OK 73505.
