Description	:	Dr. Benjamin Harrison Kantack was born in Logan Towship, near Greenleaf, Washington Co., KS. Son of Vincent & Emma (Schroll) Kantack, he grew up on the family farm with his 12 siblings. He graduated from Greenleaf High School in 1946. He earned his B.S. degree in agronomy from Kansas State University in 1951, his Master's degree from Oklahoma State in 1954, and a Ph.D in entomology from the University of Nebraska in 1963. Read More	Dr. Benjamin Harrison Kantack was born in Logan Towship, near Greenleaf, Washington Co., KS. Son of Vincent & Emma (Schroll) Kantack, he grew up on the family farm with his 12 siblings. He graduated from Greenleaf High School in 1946. He earned his B.S. degree in agronomy from Kansas State University in 1951, his Master's degree from Oklahoma State in 1954, and a Ph.D in entomology from the University of Nebraska in 1963. He came to SDSU in 1962, where he transferred from the teaching in the classroom to the Cooperative Extension Service, where he served for 28 years as an extension entomologist and researcher. In 1991, he was presented with SDSU's Living Legend award. He was inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame in 1993. He was also a consultant for agricultural chemical companies, and testified as an expert witness in various litigations. His research also assisted in bringing a murderer to trial. On 10 Oct 1953, he married the love of his life, Frances Irene Coash. Together, they raised 7 children. He was an active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Parish and was also active in the Brookings community, serving on the Brookings School Board and held many University and Committee memberships. During his distinguished career he received many awards and honors including Proclamation by South Dakota Governor declaring January 18, 1991 “Ben Kantack Day”, He loved hunting and fishing, taking his children and grandchildren on hunting and fishing adventures throughout his life. He leaves to mourn, his spouse, 7 children, 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 1 brother, plus numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
