Brown, 76, Manhattan, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at a Topeka hospital. Dr. Brown was a chiropractor in the Manhattan area for 51 years. He served in the Army Signal Corps with the Eighth Armor Division in the European Theater during World War II. He was born Dec. 8, 1924, in Clay County, the son of Roy B. Brown and Mary Evelyn Schwab Brown. He was raised in Morganville and graduated from Morganville High School in 1942. He attended Kansas State Agricultural College in Manhattan. He graduated from Kansas State Chiropractic College in Wichita. Dr. Brown was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lafayette Lodge No. 16 AF&AM, Manhattan Shrine Club and the Tin Lizzies, Club Manhattan, LTD, Pearce-Keller Post No. 17 of the American Legion, Lee Pierson Post No. 1786 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks Lodge, all in Manhattan. Dr. Brown also was a member of the Kansas State Chiropractic Association and was awarded for a lifetime of Service to Chiropractic and the Citizens of Kansas by the North-Central District of the Kansas Chiropractic Association. Dr. Brown participated in fund-raising for the Shriners Hospital for Children, and he served five years as treasurer of the Manhattan Shrine Club. He was treasurer of the Tin Lizzies at the time of his death. He also was active with the Isis Shrine and Scottish Rite Bodies in Salina. He married Mary Jane O'Malley on April 19, 1947, in Clay Center. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Barton B. Brown, Manhattan; and a daughter, Mary Kay Brown Davis, Baton Rouge, La. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home in Manhattan. Burial with military and Masonic committal services will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Riley County Genealogical Society Library or the charity of the donor's choice and sent in care of the funeral home. Source: Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home.
