OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, February 20, 1947 CHANCEY LEE BRITTELL Chancey Lee Brittell, son of Frank and Mary Brittell, was born May 11, 1882, at Maquoketa, Iowa, and died Feb. 15, 1947, at his home in Chariton, Ia., at the age of 64 years, 9 months and 4 days. He graduated from Maquoketa high school at the age of 17 years and entered State University of Iowa where, after a Liberal Arts course, he entered the college of medicine, graduating June 12, 1907. He was married on that same date to Rose P. Landes who lives to mourn his loss. Dr. Brittell practiced in Colorado until Oct. 3, 1908, when with his wife, he came to Chariton and located, devoting over 39 years to the care of suffering humanity. A conscientious and sympathetic physician, he never refused a call even at the expense of his own health and there will be many an elderly patient, especially, who will miss his solicitous ministration as well as the community in general. He was a man of high ideals, a sincere friend and a devoted husband. He leaves to cherish his memory in addition to his wife, Rose, a step-son, Earle Prentice, and several cousins. He was preceded in death eight years ago by his brother, Dr. Foust L. Brittell, of Ft. Madison, Iowa, and by his mother in 1937. Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 18, at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal church. The Rev. Howard S. Trask officiated. Interment, under the direction of the Beardsley Funeral home was made in the family plot at the Chariton cemetery. Relatives from out of town attending the final rites were two cousins, Mrs. Lodema Anderson, of Maquoketa, Iowa, and Mrs. Retta Nairn, of Mt. Ayr, Iowa.
