Burial was at the Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. He was born on April 20th 1921 in Marshalltown, IA to Clinton and Maude (Spies) Hooven. Ike Hooven 84, of Spencer who died Friday January 6th 2006 at his home in Spencer. Burial was at the Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. He was born on April 20th 1921 in Marshalltown, IA to Clinton and Maude (Spies) Hooven. Ike was United in marriage to De Ette Chaney on February 26th 1945 in Spencer. De Ette did on February 13th 2002. Ike then married Jane "Kile" Byrn on August 31st 2003 in Spencer. Ike graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1939. He went on to further his education by attending the University of Northern Iowa. Ike disconntinued school to serve his country in the United States Air Force serving from May 6th 1942 until December 14th 1945. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Soldiers Medal and the Distinquised Flying Cross. When Ike returned from the service he went back to school at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis Tennessee. He practiced optometry in Spencer until retiring at the age of 70. He was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis, a past president of the Iowa Optometric Association. He was Optometrist of the year in 1969 and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, traveling, playing bridge, golfing, Hunting, Fishing, walking, Woodworking and gardening. Ike is survived by his wife Jane Hooven of Spencer, two daughters Sally Kingston of Neligh, Nebraska and Suzanne Stevens of San Francisco California Three Sisters Joanna Summerlot of Marshalltown, Priscilla Arthur and her husband Jim of Brighton Colorado and Bess Frank and her husband John of Arlington Texas. He was preceded in his death by his parents, his first wife De Ette and two sisters Blanche Brimmer and Hazel Arnold The Schuchert Funeral Home in Spirit Lake was in charge of arrangements.
