Description	:	Courtney David Egerton, M.D., 86, died Friday, June 19, 2009 in the skilled nursing section of the Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community in Asheville. He was born June 8, 1923 in Rocky Mount, NC to Courtney and Mary Bradley Egerton. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Bradley Egerton. Read More	Courtney David Egerton, M.D., 86, died Friday, June 19, 2009 in the skilled nursing section of the Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community in Asheville. He was born June 8, 1923 in Rocky Mount, NC to Courtney and Mary Bradley Egerton. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Bradley Egerton. The family moved to Raleigh where he graduated from Broughton High School in 1941. He attended UNC-Chapel Hill where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He attended UNC and the University of Louisville for his M.D. and then served in the US Navy in Japan during the Korean War and at Bethesda Naval Hospital. After completing an internship and residency in Philadelphia, PA, he returned to Raleigh in 1954 to practice obstetrics and gynecology with Dr. Robert Ruark. He remained with the Ruark Clinic for 34 years, retiring in 1988. He was beloved and respected by his medical colleagues, staff members, and patients throughout his career. Dr. Egerton was an active member of the North Carolina and Wake County Medical Societies; the NC OB/GYN Society, of which he was the President; the South Atlantic OB/GYN Society as well as other medical organizations. He was chief of staff at Wake Medical Center. In addition, he served on the adjunct faculty at UNC Medical School for a number of years. Dr. Egerton was a seasonal resident of Beech Mountain (1969-1980) and Blowing Rock, NC (1980-1999) and was an avid golfer and snow skier. He moved to Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community in Asheville in 2000. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Upshaw Egerton; two daughters, Barbara Tillery and her husband, Tim, of Laurel, MS and Alice Miller of Cumming, GA; one son, Stuart Egerton and his wife, Karen, of Wilmington, NC and three granddaughters, Laura Brady of Atlanta, GA, Carrie Egerton of London, UK and Charlotte Egerton of Wilmington, NC. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 22, 2009 in St. Giles Chapel at Deerfield.
