Kochenderfer April 9, 1907 - Aug. 19, 2000 Dr. Edison W. KOCHENDERFER, 93, 1605 Madison St., Apt. 2, died at 4:45 a.m. Saturday at ExtandaCare, Rochester. Born in Rochester in the first frame residence hospital known as Woodlawn to George Washington and Lucy Jane GOOD KOCHENDERFER, he married LaVerne R. LEWANDOWSKI on Jan. 6, 1962 in Chicago, Ill. She survives. He resided on the family farm in Newcastle Township until age 10 when his family moved to Cornell, Wisc. He was a physician and teacher in the Chicago western suburbs for over 40 years, returning to Rochester in 1972. He graduated from Eau Claire High School and the University of Eau Claire, in Wisconsin, with a Bachelor of Science degree and had a Master of Science degree from the University of Iowa with a major in biochemistry. He did research work on lecithin at the University of Iowa, research on atherosclerosis at the National Institute of Health at Bethesda, Md., and research on radioactive isotope methodology at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. His career spanned 43 years. He had been principal at Barron High School, Barron, Wisc., for four years and taught at Marengo, Ill., for two and a half years. He was scout master for seven years at Marengo, Barron and Eau Claire. A second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserves during World War II, he taught chemistry, physics and aviation at Proviso Township High School, Maywood, Ill., for over 33 years. He taught evenings at the Academy for Adults, Chicago, for 10 years, practiced as a physician for 20 years in Maywood and Forest Park, Ill., teaching three years at the National College of Chiropractics, Lombard, Ill., during this time. Since returning to Rochester he worked with the elderly as co-director of the Fulton County Council on Aging for two years, was past president of the Fulton County AARP chapter for two years, chariman of the Fulton County RSVP Board for one year, lectured for the American Cancer Society for one year, was a member of the Indiana State Advisory Council on Aging and the Aged, was assistant State Director for the National AARP for four years, serving Northern Indiana, was a 50-year member of the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 79, Rochester, where he was a past master, was a member of the Scottish Rite, South Bend, and the Shrine Mizpah Temple, Ft. Wayne, and was an elder and Sunday school teacher at the First Christian Church, where he was very active. Survivors include twin daughters, Pat RIDLER, Carrollton, Tex., and Nancy TRIEBES and husband Kenneth, San Jose, Calif.; three grandchildren, Robyn RIDLER, Boston, Mass., Karl TRIEBES, Santa Clara, Calif., and Steve TRIEBES, Tokyo, Japan; one sister, Hester SHIELDS, Minneapolis, Minn.; and six nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Naomi PETERSON, two brothers, Wayne [KOCHENDERFER] and Howard [KOCHENDERFER], and a nephew, Melvin [KOCHENDERFER]. Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Foster and Good Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. Bill RIGGS officiating. Burial will be at Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Masonic Lodge 79 will conduct a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
