Interment was in the churchyard of Prince George Church. Dr Kelley was born October 10 1886 in Lee County near Bishopville. He was the son of the late James Aleck and Florence Horton Kelley. He was graduated from the Medical College of South Carolina in 1908. He began practice in Kingstree shortly afterward he later founded Kelley Memorial Hospital in Kingstree and was surgeon there until coming to Georgetown in 1947. He and his son the late Dr. James Aleck Kelley built and operated the Kelley Clinic here. Dr. Kelley was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons a member of the Tri State medical society and other professional groups. He was a Mason. While living in Kingstree he was active in civic and fraternal organizations. He was a member of the Kingstree Methodist Church. He served on the official board of the church for a number of years. Since coming to Georgetown he has been a member of Duncan Memorial Methodist Church. Dr Kelley was an active outdoor man and entertained at fishing and hunting parties at his Indian Hut Lodge on the Black River. He was twice married. His first wife the former Miss Lorena Ross died in 1937. Surviving are the widow Mrs. Vera Smith Kelly; two daughters Mrs. J. Frank Eatmon of Kingstree and Mrs Jesse Phifer of Rockingham NC; six grandchildren and adopted daughter Mrs W S Brockington of Greenwood; and an adopted son James E Blake of Bamberg.
