Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m. Doc was born on Dec. 11, 1915, at home in Cascade, son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Crawford) Bisenius. He married Louise Savage on April 16, 1942, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Baltimore, Md. Doc attended the former St. Mary's Grade School and was a graduate of the former St. Mary's High School in Cascade. He also was a graduate of the University of Iowa Dental College in Iowa City. He played college baseball. While he was practicing dentistry for the Public Health Services in Mobile, Ala., World War II broke out, and Doc was inducted into the Navy. After the war, he moved his family back to Cascade, where he set up his dental practice, became involved in community affairs and played semi-pro baseball for the Cascade Reds. He was inducted into the Dubuque County Baseball Hall of Fame. Dr. Bisenius practiced as a family dentist in Cascade for almost 50 years. During that time, he was president and co-founder of the Cascade Public Library, a founding member of Shady Rest Care Center, a lifetime member of the Cascade American Legion Post 528, a member of the Cascade Knights of Columbus Council No. 930, and a member of the St. Mary's Parish Council, the Cascade Medical Board and the Cascade Municipal Utility Board. Surviving are his wife, Louise Bisenius, of Cascade; four sons, Dave Bisenius, of Dubuque, Steve (Irma) Bisenius, of Oelwein, John (Daniela) Bisenius, of Oswego, Ill., and Phil (Donna) Bisenius, of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Mary Lou (Ken) Kurt and Linda (Jim) Dobler, both of Cascade; 20 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Aletha Collins, of Summerville, S.C. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Paul Bisenius; a grandson; and a great-grandson. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Father Joseph McDermott, to all the volunteers of St. Matthias Parish, to the staff of Shady Rest Care Center and to Hospice of Dubuque for all of their loving care.
