Anderson Eli Whitney Anderson was born March 30th, 1855, in Jefferson county, Indiana, died at Indianapolis, Indiana, February 8th, 1916, aged 60 years, 10 months and 8 days. He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Anderson, of Howard, Kansas. At the age of 23 years he entered the Cincinnatti Dental College from which he was graduated at the head of his class and for several years thereafter was principal demonstrator in the college. Later he moved to Indianapolis and entered the practice of dentistry. He soon established a reputation and became one of the most prominent men in his profession. Shortly after moving to Indianapolis he united with the Presbyterian church of which he remained a member until the time of his death. He was honored and respected by all who knew him. Dr. Anderson was a 33 degree Mason which organization held the customary ritualistic services before the remains were brought to Howard. He leaves four sisters, Mrs. Alzora Trowbridge of Muncie, Indiana; Miss Martha Anderson of Indianapolis; Mrs. A.F. Eby and Mrs. Irena A. Boutell of Howard, Kansas. In addition to the relatives a host of friends mourn his departure. The floral tribute that came with the remains of Dr. Anderson speaks louder than words as to the appreciation with which he was held in his home city. But to know him was to be his friend, and the ennobling principles that emanated from his life had its influence for good upon all who came in contact with him. The Indianapolis Star said: "The sturdy citizenship by which this town has been made eminent abroad and ennobling a home had a faithful representative in Dr. Anderson." The pastor of the Presbyterian church at Indianapolis said, "One of the greatest influences for good has left Indianapolis." Dr. Anderson's funeral was preached in the First Baptist church of Howard, Kansas, by the pastor O.L. Weir, assisted by Rev. J. McCrory pastor of the Presbyterian church, and his body was laid to rest in Grace lawn cemetery with Masonic honors by Hope Lodge No. 155 Howard, Kansas. (transcribed by Judy Mayfield) Jan. 2021
