In addition to her husband, her son, Tim and his wife, Vicki, of Williamston; a daughter, Barbara Galloway Owen of Liberty; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren survive her. Read More	Dr. Elizabeth Jane Boyce Galloway, 77, beloved wife of Tillman Hope Galloway, resident of 217 S. Hamilton St., Williamston, died Nov. 2, 2005, after a long illness of pancreatic cancer. In addition to her husband, her son, Tim and his wife, Vicki, of Williamston; a daughter, Barbara Galloway Owen of Liberty; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren survive her. She was the daughter of the late Bertie Barnwell and Belt Boyce Sr. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Charles Derwood Boyce and Belt Boyce Jr. Dr. Galloway was a prominent educator with a teaching career spanning more than 40 years. She taught 10 years in School District One, Anderson County, and served as a reading consultant there for several years. Her collegiate-level teaching included a year at Furman University and four years there as a part-time faculty member; 25 years at Clemson University; and one year at Erskine College. She worked for the S.C. Department of Education for three years, where she served as a teacher specialist in Jasper County. Her degrees included an associate degree, summa cum laude, 1957, Anderson College; B.A. degree, elementary education, magna cum laude, 1958, Erskine College; M.A. degree, Furman University, 1963; and Ed.D. in reading, University of Georgia, 1971. She completed 60 hours of post-graduate work at Clemson University and the University of South Carolina. At the state level, she served as consultant and chairperson in SACS evaluation, was a member of Triple E Writing Committee, BSAP Reading, Gov. Dick Riley's task force, and president of the State International Reading Association. Other involvements in public school or state department activities were past president of the Clemson Chapter, Phi Delta Kappa, and president of the Clemson Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa. Other endeavors included numerous workshops conducted in public schools; member of NASDTEC Committee, Winthrop College; and Reading Recovery Committee, State Department of Education. At the national level, Dr. Galloway published material for the Scott Foresman Publishing Co. and contributed numerous articles for educational journals. She conducted workshops for the national IRA and NCTE meetings. In an article in the Clemson Kappan, Dr. Linda Curry hailed her as a "legend in her own time." The Clemson Kappan called her designation as the first female alumni professor "a milestone in the early years of Clemson women." Dr. Galloway was a member of the First Baptist Church of Williamston; she became a Christian when she was 11 years old. She had taught Sunday school to adults, couples and young single girls. She had been a group leader in the WMU. Elizabeth was known simply as "Lib" to the many friends whom she loved and cherished. Of all of her achievements, it was these friends and her family that she considered as her greatest accomplishment. The visitation will be tonight, Nov. 3, 2005, at Gray Mortuary, West Pelzer, from 7 to 8:30. Funeral services will be at the First Baptist Church of Williamston on Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Brad Bardin officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made in her honor to the First Baptist Church of Williamston; and/or to Anderson School District One. Memorials given to the school district will be placed in the "Dr. Elizabeth Galloway Memorial Fund for Young Readers" to purchase books to help elementary students in crisis situations. Pallbearers are Bennie Cobb, Jimmy Hanning, Tony Crowe, Dale Bell, Lee Rogers and Ray Bunton. Honorary pallbearers are her grandsons, grandsons-in-law, and nephew, Zach Owen, Trey Galloway, Johnny McCullough, Joel Beitel, Walt Scharer, Kevin Black and Chip Boyce.
