Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday, August 22 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, with burial in Beaver Catholic Cemetery in Granger. Dr. McCormick was born in Harpers Ferry, Iowa. McCormick, 78, of Urbandale, died of cardiac complications at his home on August 18, 2005. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday, August 22 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, with burial in Beaver Catholic Cemetery in Granger. Dr. McCormick was born in Harpers Ferry, Iowa. He served in the Army Corps of Engineering during World War II. He attended the University of Iowa Dental School and practiced dentistry in Des Moines for 42 years. He was a member of the American Dental Association, the Iowa Dental Association and the Des Moines District Dental Society. He belonged to the G.V. Black Dental Study Club, American Legion and was a charter member of St. Pius X parish. He enjoyed farming, golfing, his dogs, gardening, playing pitch and teasing and playing with his grandchildren. He demonstrated a fine sense of humor, courageous spirit and a generous nature. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patty; three sons, Jose (Linda) Garcia of Urbandale, Mike (Dietre) of Carlisle and Jim (Pat) of Dallas Center; two daughters, Rose (Jim) Anglin of Orlando, Florida and Maureen (John) Sorensen of Loveland, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; an three great- grandchildren; one brother, Charlie of Dubuque; and one sister, Evelyn Welper of Waukon. He was preceded in death by his brother, Emmett. The family will greet friends from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Westover Funeral Home with a vigil service at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be give to St. Pius X Foundation or Diocese of Des Moines Catholic Charities.
