Bullard Relatives here received word Tuesday that Dr. E. W. Bullard had died at 5 o'clock on the morning of that day at his home in Pawnee City, Nebraska. He had been in poor health or some months, and suffered with heart trouble, an ailment that had bothered him for years. He came into this section of the country at the close of the war of the rebellion, in which he served, and located at Old Cincinnati, afterwards going to Pawnee City. He remained there a number of years, and moving to Seneca over twenty years ago, and made his home here most of the time. Some three years since he removed to Pawnee City, where his eldest son is a practicing physician, and again followed his profession. Dr. Bullard was a good citizen and an upright man and a master of his work in life, and made many friends in his years of residence in Seneca and surrounding country, who will be sorry to learn of the close of his earthly pilgrimage. He was about 65 years of age and leaves a wife, Dr. J. W. Bullard of Pawnee City, and daughters Miss Daisy and Mrs. Ruby Skinner, together with relatives and a host of friends to mourn his demise. Owing to the absence of the home pastor, Rev. W. L. Morris of the Seneca Methodist Episcopal church conducted the funeral. Mrs. William Scott and daughter, Miss Nellie, and A. G. Sanburn, attended the funeral which occurred in Pawnee City at 3 o'clock Wednesday. ************************************************************* SENECA TRIBUNE, Seneca, Kansas, Thursday, May 26, 1904. Page 6. OBITUARY Ezekiel W. Bullard was born in Vinton county, Ohio, August 10, 1835. There he grew to manhood and was united in marriage to Elizabeth Aikins September 11, 1855. To them were born eight children, four of whom are now living- Dr. John W. Bullard of Pawnee City; Mrs. Eliza M. Wade of Capioma, Kansas; Mrs. Ruby A. Skinner of Topeka, Kansas, and Miss Daisy M. Bullard of Pawnee City. Dr. Bullard enlisted in the 114th Ohio during the war of the rebellion and served until discharged on account of disability in February, 1863. On the first of December following he, together with his wife and two older children, left Zaleski, Ohio for Pawnee county, Nebraska, and arrived at the home of William Aikins on the farm west of town now owned by Dr. Johnson, on the fifth day of December. The trip was made to Savannah, Missouri, by rail and from there to Brownville by stage coach. At Brownville the river was crossed in a skiff amid the floating ice, and a man with a spring wagon hired to bring them to Pawnee. The doctor settled in South Fork precinct, where he practiced his profession for nearly twenty years, a year or so of this time being spent in Kansas and a short time in Pawnee City. These were days when there were no buggies and the physician had to make his trip by horseback, and as there were no bridges it was necessary to swim to get to some of his patients, and this the doctor did on several occasions. In 1888 he moved to Seneca, Kansas, where he remained until July, 1902-except three years spent in the Eclectic Medical college at Des Moines, Iowa- when he removed to Pawnee City. He was widely known in southeastern Nebraska and Northeastern Kansas, where he enjoyed a very extensive practice. He had been a sufferer from heart disease for many years. During the past few months he had grown gradually worse, being unable to lie down for some time before his death. Dr. Bullard had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church since he was sixteen years old. The funeral service was conducted from the Methodist church, Rev. W. L. Morris, pastor of the Methodist church of Seneca, Kansas, preaching the sermon, after which the services were in charge of the Masonic fraternity, of which order he had long been a member and the remains were laid to rest in the family lot in the Pawnee City cemetery, beside those of his son, Dr. Harry L. Bullard, who died in January, 1899, and the three children who died in infancy. The wife and the four living children were all present at the funeral. -Pawnee Republican
