DIELMAN, 85, Fulton, a practicing physician in Fulton for 60 years, died at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at Woodlawn hospital after an emergency operation. Dr. Dielman became ill Thursday while making his regular rounds at the hospital. He underwent surgery but died in his room some time later. The oldest practicing medical doctor in Fulton county, Dr. Dielman was honored Oct. 11, 1958 at "Dr. Dielman Day" in Fulton. More than 2,000 persons attended the festivities in the Fulton gymnasium, at which he was presented many gifts and a check for $1,200. He donated the money to Woodlawn hospital. The principal speaker at the program was Phil ESKEW, now commissioner of the Indiana High School Athletic Association. Eskew was superintenednt of Sullivan schools at the time. Born Sept. 20, 1879 south of Akron in Perry township, Miami county, Dr. Dielman was the son of John and Anna CRAIG DIELMAN. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1904 and started practice in his home community of Macy. Because there were four doctors there he moved to Fulton shortly afterwards. His first office was in the rear room of the Poorman barber shop at the north end of Fulton's main street. Some years later he moved to his present office on the west side of Main street, which he shared with Dr. J. A. HAFERT, a dentist, until Dr. Dielman died. Dr. Dielman had lived in Rochester since his second marriage in 1950, but he went to his office in Fulton daily. He had been on the staff of Woodlawn hospital since its beginning in 1905 and a patient's room in the hospital was furnished in his honor. His first marriage was on July 2, 1905 to Ida F. JEWELL, who died Dec. 15, 1948. His second marriage was on Feb. 2, 1950 to Maude DOWNS, who survives. Dr. Dielman was a member of the Fulton E.U.B. church, Masonic lodge and Eastern Star at Fulton, Royal Arch Masons at Rochester, Fulton County Medical Society and Indiana Medical Association. Surviving with the wife, are a daughter, Mrs. Mildred DOWNS, Rochester; two sons, Howard [DIELMAN], Logansport, and Robert F. [DIELMAN], Safford, Ariz.; two step-sons, William DOWNS, Rochester, and Donald DOWNS, Westfield, N.J.; eight grandchildren; five step-great[grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Charlotte MATHIAS, Akron. Final rites will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Fulton E.U.B. church with the Revs. Donald ABBEY of Elkhart, former Fulton E.U.B. pastor, and Paul GARNER, present pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call at the Ditmire-Davidson funeral home in Fulton after 7 p.m. today. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour before services. Dr. Dielman had asked his family that, upon his death, contributions be made to a worthy cause in lieu of flowers. The family has deciced to establish a Dr. Dielman Memorial Fund, with proceeds to be used at Woodlawn hospital.
