Oct 21, 1942 - Carroll Times Herald - Dr. Fred V. Hibbs, prominent physician and member of the Carroll clinic, passed away shortly before midnight Tuesday at the St. Anthony Hospital. His death followed a 4 day illness of heart disease and kidney involvement. Dr. Hibbs was widely known throughout the community and this section or the state. He had practiced medicine here for 25 years. Funeral services are to be at 2:30 Friday afternoon at the First Presbyterian Church with burial in the family lot in the Carroll cemetery. Friends may view the body at the Huffman Funeral Home, where it is resting until Friday noon when it will be taken tot he family residence, 1125 North Main Street, to remain there until the time of the church rites. Dr. Hibbs, who was of the Quaker stock, was born in Polk county, Ia, a son of James L and Hannah (Marmon) Hibbs. He was one of a family of 9 children. When he was 8 years old, his parents moved to Lake City, where he attended the public schools. He was graduated from the academy at Iowa city before matriculating at the State University, where he received his M.D. degree. He interrupted his schooling to serve his country in the Spanish-American War. A member of the first Iowa Volunteers, he was on active duty in the arm hospital while in the Philippines, where he served for 18 months. After graduation from the State University, Dr. Hibbs opened offices for the practice of his profession at Lohrville. While in Lorhville he served as mayor and a member of the town council. he was also worshipful master of the Masonic lodge there, as well as worthy patron of the Eastern Star. Coming to Carroll in 1917, he was in partnership with Dr. O.C. Morrison for a short time, before joining the Carroll Clinic, which was organized in 1919. He was one of the founders of the Carroll clinic , with which he was associated from the time of its organization until his death. He was formerly chief of the medical staff of the St. Anthony Hospital. While residing at Lohrville, Dr. Hobbs was married to Miss Minnie Elizabeth Baird of Lohrville. To them were born two children, Wayne Hibbs of Forest city, IA and Mrs. C.J. Stringer (Ruth) of East Lansing, MI, both of whom were here when their father passed away. Their mother died shortly after the family came to Carroll. Several years after her death, Dr. Hibbs married Miss Vera Edna Farrell of Carroll, who died Nov 9, 1934. They were the parents of one daughter, Juanita, who is a senior in high school. June 25, 1939, Dr. Hibbs was married to Miss Marie Denkinger, of Wayne, NE, a former member of the Carroll public school faculty. Surviving with his wife and his three children above named are two grandsons: Jimmy and John Stringer; two sisters, Mrs. George Kippey of Colfax, WA and Mrs J.J. Hucka of Des Moines; and one brother, Dr. T.G. Hibbs of Sioux City. Dr hibbs was preceded in death by four brothers, Orin, Charles, Guy, and Roland Hibbs, and one sister, Mrs. Winnie Thompson....
