Read More	Gayleen Marie Eilers, M.D., the daughter of Robert and Mildred (Love) Eilers, was born on November 29, 1955 in Superior, Nebraska. She passed away on October 17, 2011 at La Crosse, Wisconsin at the age of 55 years, 10 months, 18 days. Gayleen was baptized on January 5, 1959 in the Presbyterian Church, in Nelson, Nebraska by Rev. J. Henry Warren. She was a member of the Lutheran Church in Wisconsin and the Nelson Community United Church of Christ. She graduated from Nelson High School and continued her education at Hastings College, Hastings, Nebraska earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biology; Summa Cum Laude with High Distinction in Biology and Alpha Chi Scholastic Honorary Society. She continued her education by earning a Doctor of Medicine with Distinction from the University of Nebraska, Omaha, Nebraska; Alpha Omega Alpha Scholastic Honorary Society. Her residency was at the Family Practice and Cedar Rapids Medical Education Program at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Her fellowship was at the Faculty Development Fellowship in Family Medicine at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She continued on with her education at Fundamentals of Management, at the American Academy of Family Physicians, New Orleans, Louisiana. Gayleen has worked in Student Health for 19 years, the University of Wisconsin for 19 years in both Student Health and as an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine with the University of Wisconsin in Madison. She also has worked at the University of La Crosse for 11 years. Her many memberships included the American Academy of Family Physicians, Wisconsin Academy of Family Physicians, American College Health Association, North Central College Health Association, American College Personnel Association and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. At the time of her passing Gayleen was retired. She enjoyed riding her bike which was the majority of her transportation needs year round. During the summer, she enjoyed spending time outside in her yard and gardens. She also enjoyed reading and a number of other activities, as she put it "if only I had the time to do them." She was preceded in death by her grandparents. She will be truly missed by her parents, Robert & Mildred and brother Stan and wife Carol; niece and nephews Scott Eilers and wife Tracy, Alison Eilers, and Timothy Eilers and great niece Lily; other relatives and a host of friends. Memorial services will be held on Friday, November 11, 2011 at 2:00 pm from the Nelson Community United Church of Christ in Nelson, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Stephen Berry officiating. Inurnment was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to go to the Nelson Community Fitness Center. There is no visitation.
