Description	:	Spartanburg Dr. George C. Duncan died Friday evening Nov. 22, 2002 . Dr. Duncan wa s born near Carrollton, Ga. in 1913. He was the son of the late Willia m Dolphus and Jewel Johnson Duncan. He was the husband of the late Lil lie Mae Roberts Duncan. He served the Spartanburg community as a pract icing physician from 1952-1996. Dr. Duncan graduated from the University of Georgia at Athens and the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. Duncan died Friday evening Nov. 22, 2002 . Dr. Duncan wa s born near Carrollton, Ga. in 1913. He was the son of the late Willia m Dolphus and Jewel Johnson Duncan. He was the husband of the late Lil lie Mae Roberts Duncan. He served the Spartanburg community as a pract icing physician from 1952-1996. Dr. Duncan graduated from the University of Georgia at Athens and the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. Postgraduate training was compl eted at Spartanburg General Hospital. He was a member of the American Academy of Family Practice, the American Society of Anesthesiology, th e American Medical Association and the SC Medical Society. He was a de acon and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. At a retirement party at his office in 1996, he was described as a ma n "born to serve". He would want to be remembered most as a dedicated physician and Chris tian servant. He was also a dedicated husband, father, grandfather an d University of Georgia Bulldog fan. In recent years a $25,000 scholar ship fund was named in his honor at UGA, and he was a member of the Un iversity's Heritage Society. Dr. Duncan is survived by his son, Dr. George C. Duncan, Jr., and his wife, Debbie of Asheville; two granddaughters, Wendy Duncan of Charlot te and Jill McLeigh and husband, Pete; and great-grandson, Pearse of G reenville; three brothers, Dr. James L. Duncan of Spartanburg, Bob Dun can of Clearwater, Fla. and Eric Duncan of Milledgeville, Ga. Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 110D Hospit al Dr., Simpsonville, SC 29680 or First Baptist Church of Spartanburg , 250 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302. Visitation will be held on Monday Nov. 25, 2002 at 12:45 p.m, to 1:45 p.m. at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2 p. m. at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Robert C. Morgan and Dr. Kirk H. Neely. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The Bob Morgan Sunday School Class and Spartanburg County Medical S ociety members are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.
