From Nevada Evening Journal October 13, 1950 (page 3) Last Rites For Dr. George Ostrem Held on Tuesday Funeral services for Dr. George Ostrem, practicing dentist who passed away at Mary Greeley hospital Saturday, Nov. 7, at 11 p. m. was held from Memorial Lutheran Church, Tuesday afternoon with Rev. E. P. Wiedman officiating. The service was very largely attended, a loud speaker conveying the service to those seated in the basement. Mrs. Lew Lounsberry sang, "Beautiful Savior". Leslie Henderson was at the organ. The entire front of the church was a bank of beautiful flowers notifying to the very high regard in which the deceased was held in this and other communities. They were arranged by Mrs. Alta Kargis, Mrs. H. W. Bowers and Mrs. R. Fred Nelson. Many memorials were also given in his memory. Honorary pall bearers included Dr. Bush Houston, Dr. R. H. Mordaunt, Dr. H. W. Bowers, Dr. M. C. Frazier, Dr. -- D. Peterson, Carl Irish, Clayton F. Hansen, R. Fred Nelson, J. J. Donnellan, E. A. Fawcett, Harold T. Fawcett, W. M. Coover, H. R. Sapp, Harry Langland, J. W. Clemmons, W. W. Fay and D. L. Harrington of Chicago, Ill. The active pallbearers were Harold Tipton, John R. Hattery, -- E. Fish of Collins, P. K. Mathison, O. L. Poehlein, and Carl -one. Burial was in the Nevada cemetery with a military graveside service with Rev. Windman acting chaplain. The color guard was made up of Lee Zook and Alex Quinsland. The firing squad included Wm. Ball, Clark Stookey, Adolph Kleinschmidt, Jimmie Stone, Roy Prescott, Tom McLaury with Ted Clark, commander. Color bearers were Ray McDaniel and W. E. Horine. The flag was folded by Clark Stookey. Obiturary The following obituary was read at the funeral service by Rev. Windman, whose sermon was a comforting one and embodied a poem which was particularly fitting for the life of the deceased son of Henry Ostrem and Anna Qualke. "He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church at Jewell. After graduating from the from the Jewell public schools, he attended Jewell Lutheran college. He was graduated from the Dental College of the University of Iowa in 1916. Upon his graduation he practiced dentistry in Ellsworth, Iowa for five years. "He was married to Ethyle Corkins, Feb. 6, 1918. To this union was born one daughter, Barbara. "In 1921 the family moved to Nevada. "Dr. Ostrem was a faithful member of Memorial Lutheran church, of this place, a member of the Fraternal organization of Free and Accepted Masons, of the local post of the American Legion, the Twentieth Century club, Elks and other social and community organizations. "He was an esteemed and highly respected citizen in the community. His untimely passing is a shock not only to his family but also to his host of friends who mourn his passing." Out-Of-Town Amond the out-of-town in attendance at the last rites were Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Harrington of Chicago, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Fred De Winter of Omaha, Neb., Dr. and Mrs. Carl Ostrem of Des Moines, Mrs. Amanda Ostrem of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Reed Landis of Waverly. Mrs. Rebecca Johnson, Storden, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. W. j. Johnson of Glendale, Calif., Mrs. Earl E. Johnson of San Bernardino, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Anderson of Cedar Falls and th Rev. and Mrs. Nagelstad of Ellsworth. Also present were three classmates of the deceased, Dr. G. W. Kauffman of Des Moines, Dr. H. R. Gustafson of Newton and Dr. Deardorf of Hubbard. Many other friends and relatives attended from Minnesota and Iowa towns including Worthington, Rushmore and Northfield, Minn., Clear Lake, Rockwell City, Jewell, Ellsworth, Radcliffe, Hubbard, Garden City, McCallsburg, Story City, Zearing, Collins, Maxwell, Ames, Des Moines, Cedar Falls, Marshalltown, Colfax, Webster City and Fernald. SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Since this is printed in the October 13, 1950 issue of the Nevada Journal, the November 7 death date is obviously an error. October 7, 1950 was a Saturday and is reasonable to assume to be the proper date of death.
