Description	:	Dr. Gerald Ehli went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 7, 2017. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown with Reverend Rhonda Hanisch and Reverend Kent Stillson officiating. Music will be by Robbyn Givens as soloist accompanied by A.J. Sherrill. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown and for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Dr. Gerald James Ehli was born at Beulah, North Dakota to Albert and Lorraine (Huber) Ehli on March 11, 1947. Gerald grew up on the family ranch where he also attended rural school for eight years. He went to High School in Golden Valley, ND where he graduated in 1965. Gerald went on to Dickinson University in Dickinson, ND where he received his Bachelors of Science degree in English and German. He married Sharon Bauer in 1969. From that union a son, Erik and daughter, Cheri were born. Gerald taught school for three years in Killdeer, ND before deciding to go on to get his Masters degree as Media Specialist at the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks, ND in 1973. With this degree he traveled to Aberdeen, SD where he taught at Aberdeen Central High School for three years. At that time he was offered a position as assistant professor at Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD. In 1983, while at N.S.U. Gerald decided to further his education and started his journey to get his Doctorate degree in 1985 from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion. Gerald was Chair of the Education Department at N.S.U. for ten years. He was trained at National Association for Secondary School Principals. Assessment Certifications Office (NASS) and Accreditation of Teachers Education (NCATE). Board of Examiners that provided accreditation for teachers education programs internationally. Gerald retired in 2009 after teaching for thirty years at N.S.U. in Aberdeen, SD. Gerald married JoLana Hendrickson in 2004. After retiring they moved to Rapid City, SD in 2009. Gerald and JoLana moved from Rapid City to Watertown in July of 2016 due to Gerald's failing health. Gerald is survived by his wife, JoLana of Watertown, SD; his son, Erik (Amy) Ehli and their children, Isaiah and McKenzie of Sioux Falls, SD; his daughter, Cheri (Tyler) Smith and their triplets, Quinn, Cole and Kenedi of Parker, SD; his stepdaughter, Peggy (Mike) Johnson of Canby, MN; his stepgrandchildren: Phillip (Ashley) Johnson of Lake Norden, SD, Randy (Allison) Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD, Michaela Johnson of Ida Grove, IA, Rodney Johnson and Richard Johnson of Canby, MN; a stepgreat-granddaughter, Roslyn Johnson of Lake Norden, SD; Gerald's sister, Anita (Charles) Wald of Rapid City, SD; one niece, Bridget Wald from Salt Lake City, UT, one nephew, Nicholas (Katie) Wald and their children, Noah and Caleb of Rapid City, SD; and numerous cousins.
