The fatal accident occurred at about twenty minutes after two, the train being on time. Dr. Talley had been called to dress the wounded hand of William Kleimeier, after which he intended to come back to his office. He had some difficulty in getting the machine cranked. Nick Yahn, who was working in the yard at the home of William McCoy, came out and helped him get started. Mr. Yahn saw the train approaching and thought that the doctor would stay on that side of the track. Dr. Talley, however, turned the car and drove it toward the crossing and into the front of the train. Dr. Talley had only owned the car a few weeks, and had not thoroughly mastered the art of driving it. Horace A. Talley was born and received his early education in Virginia, coming to Wentzville over thirty years ago, when he entered into partnership with his uncle, Dr. John Talley, to practice medicine. He has been here ever since with the exception of a few years spent in California. About three years ago he returned to Wentzville from that state. He was united in marriage with Miss Laura Dierker of this place, a sister of the late Sheriff John H. Dierker. She preceded him in death about two years ago. He was a thirty-second degree Mason. At the time of his death, he was about fifty-four years of age. Dr. Talley is survived by two sons, Ernest and Horace, both of whom reside in California, and one daughter, Miss Vere of Wentzville. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. B. F. Cline at the Wentzville Methodist Church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon. The remains will be laid to rest in the Wentzville Cemetery. Dr. Talley ranked high in his profession, and was endeared to numerous patients. In fact, “Dr. Horace,” was considered almost as a member of the family in the homes in which he had practiced for so many years. Considering this, it is not strange that his sudden death has cast a shadow of sadness over the entire community.
