Description	:	Death of Dr. H. G. Smith -- Dr. H. G. Smith died at his home Wednesday noon at the age of seventy-nine years. On Sunday the family took an automobile ride to Shick1ey at the request of Dr. Smith and on the return expressed his pleasure of the trip, but a little later he was taken sick and lapsed into unconsciousness from which he never regained, death being due to paralysis. Smith died at his home Wednesday noon at the age of seventy-nine years. On Sunday the family took an automobile ride to Shick1ey at the request of Dr. Smith and on the return expressed his pleasure of the trip, but a little later he was taken sick and lapsed into unconsciousness from which he never regained, death being due to paralysis. Doctor Smith settled in 1871 on the site on which Exeter is located. He was the pioneer merchant and was its postmaster for a number of years, and during these early years was land agent for the Burlington railroad, bringing a number of homesteaders to this locality to settle. Dr. Smith helped to organize Fillmore county and took an active part in the development of Exeter and vicinity, in many ways. He was president of the First National bank from 1889 to 1898, when he retired to private life owing to illness. He was one of the number to organize the First Congregational church, to which institution he has always been a most loyal supporter. He is survived by his wife, son Charles C.
