In the 1937 book, "Bolton Families in Ireland" by Charles Knowlton Bolton, he is said to be a son of Thomas Bolton of County Antrim, Ireland, and that he had four brothers and a sister. He is possibly the Hugh named in a will of his brother Samuel in 1718, also naming brothers John, William(who settled in Windham,NH), and Thomas(who settled in Falmouth,ME)(Here?), and a sister Agnes.
