His father started a store at the cross roads four miles north of Merom and naming the place Graysville for the Gray family of that vicinity, became its first Postmaster as well as founder. The mother, Emily Peters, was the daughter of Jordan Peters, a prominent pioneer resident of Hamilton Township. Read More	A MEDICAL HISTORY OF SULLIVAN CO.,(IN.) -PAGE 104 Dr. Isaac Peter Stewart was born at Graysville, IN., the son of Lafayette Stewart and Emily Peters. His father started a store at the cross roads four miles north of Merom and naming the place Graysville for the Gray family of that vicinity, became its first Postmaster as well as founder. The mother, Emily Peters, was the daughter of Jordan Peters, a prominent pioneer resident of Hamilton Township. He was one of the faithful who established the first Methodist Class in Sullivan, meeting in the new County Seminary building until they were able to build their first church building, William's Chapel, on the West side of the square. Dr. Stewart studied under Dr. J.J. Thompson and had one term at Rush Medical College, after which he began practice at Shelburn in 1870. On Dec. 8, 1872, Dr. Stewart fell from his stable loft and hurt himself so he died in a few hours. He had married on Dec. 18, 1866 to Lydia Johnson at Sullivan, IN.,and she, with one child, William L. Stewart, survived him. Dr. Stewart was a member of the Sullivan Presbyterian Church and was active in its work, being Sunday School Superintendent for a long time and a consultant attendant at its prayer meetings, where he took an active part. He was the oldest brother of Dr. L.A. Stewart of this city.
