At his home in this city Thursday evening passed away one of Jefferson County's pioneers, a man largely identified with the history of both town and country, Dr. Jacob L. MYERS.... Dr. MYERS was born in Fluvanna County, Virginia, March 20th, 1814. At an early age he removed with his father's family to Washington County, Tennessee, where he grew to manhood. His education was largely secured in that state, although it was supplemented by a course of study in Kentucky, where the young man began the study of medicine and entered upon its practice. Later, becoming dissatisfied with the working of the old school, he removed to Cincinnati and began the study of the botanic system, which he practiced during the remainder of his life. He again returned to Tennessee, and finally removed to Frankfort, Indiana, where he resided two years. In 1837 Dr. MYERS came to Iowa, and landed at Burlington, and was henceforth identified with the young state.... His residence in Fairfield began in 1846, and with the exception of three years spent in California it has been continuous... Dr. MYERS was married four times, and was the father of 20 children, only six of whom are now living. His first wife, to whom he was married in Tennessee, was a daughter of Rev. L. G. BELL, one of the earliest preachers in this county, and the founder of a Presbyterian seminary for ladies, which long ago fell into decay. His second wife was Mary RAMSAY, married in 1855, and his third marriage was to Eliza KOONS, in 1859. November 25th, 1880, he was united in marriage with Miss Rachel L. ROBINSON, who survives him. A man of unusual talent and excellent education, he was a leading spirit in the community for many years, and a most successful practitioner... Married Sept. 27, 1831, FRANCES BELL, daughter of REV. L. G. BELL; his second wife was MARY RAMSEY, to whom he was married April 5, 1855; third marriage, to ELIZA KOONS, Sept. 8, 1859; had seven children by his first wife—DAVID G., WILLIAM H., CHARLES F., CAROLINE, ED. A., MARGARET E. and GEORGE H.; four by his third wife—J. L., ELLA, SHERMAN T., and MARGARET. Burial Permit: J. L. MYERS, age 73-2-20, male, white, d. Fairfield City June 2 1887; Valvular Disease Heart; DR. A. G. WARD; GIBSON & BECK, Undertakers.
