PREWITT, DVM Dr. James Dee Prewitt, DVM, Born July 27, 1931 in Manning, Iowa, entered into his final rest on Friday, December 6, 2013. A son of the late Homer Dee and Emma Belle (Turner) Prewitt. He was preceded in death by is daughter, Sylvia Lubelle Prewitt. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Wilma M. (Agan) Prewitt, daughters, Captain Cynthia Ann Timmons and Dr. Darci Lea Prewitt. James began his career as a paperboy, giving his pay to help feed his family. He joined Boy Scouts, and became an Eagle Scout. Later, as an adult he became a certified Merit Badge Counselor and a Rotarian. His early years led him into a lifelong commitment to "Service Above Self." At 17, James worked at A-C Ice Cream Co. in Des Moines, Iowa. He voluntarily joined the United States Marine Corps to serve his country. James was discharged after receiving multiple injuries while saving the lives of several fellow Marines. He was presented the Gold Star, Purple Heart Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal and National Defense Service Medal, and was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1954. In 1955, James was united in marriage to his lifelong love Wilma Agan, creating 3 charming daughters and 7 fantastic grandchildren. He was awarded a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1959 and practiced Companion Animal Medicine at Dee Pet Clinic in Florissant, MO. During this time, he was a spiritual leader at Halls Ferry Christian Church. James was a former District Governor of Rotary International District 605 and former President of Florissant Rotary Club while supporting many philanthropic causes, being a noted Phil Harris Fellow. Memorial visitation 6 p.m. Friday, December 13, and Memorial Service beginning at 7 p.m. the same evening at Hutchens Mortuary and Cremation Service, 675 Graham Rd., Florissant, MO. Missouri Military Honors detail conducting Honors at 7:45 p.m. with flag presentation.
