Born on March 16, 1926 in Montgomery County, he was the son of the late Early and Lottie Harris. He graduated from V.P.I. in 1951 and the University of Georgia Veterinary School in 1955. He was the first licensed veterinarian in Radford, establishing and practicing at the Radford Animal Hospital from 1955 to 1986. Born on March 16, 1926 in Montgomery County, he was the son of the late Early and Lottie Harris. He graduated from V.P.I. in 1951 and the University of Georgia Veterinary School in 1955. He was the first licensed veterinarian in Radford, establishing and practicing at the Radford Animal Hospital from 1955 to 1986. Surviving are his son, James E. Harris and wife, Debbie of Roanoke; a daughter, Catherine H. Sassard and husband, Michael of Roanoke; two brothers, Masten P. Harris and wife, Shelia, Warrenton, and Kenneth A. Harris and wife, Geneva of Radford; three grandchildren, Brian Harris, Andrew Sassard, and Kathleen Sassard; two nephews; two nieces; and a special friend, Jackie Pugh also survive. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2000 at the DeVilbiss Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gina Rhea officiating. Interment will follow in the Indian Creek Cemetery, Floyd County. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, February 10, 2000 at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home.
