CREIGHTON Stettler, Red Willow and Botha Mourn Death of Popular Physician Stettler, Alta., May 24--The funeral of the late Dr. Creighton was held in the Methodist church at 2:30 yesterday, and the high esteem in which he was held in the district was shown by the large number who attended the funeral, the streets being lined with cars and rigs. The people from his old district of Red Willow and Botha practically all attended, and from all directions they drove in. Flags were at half mast and all business places were closed during the service. Revs. Messrs. Lytle and Pocock delivered the funeral service, the church being packed and hundreds standing outside. Seventy-five cars followed the remains to the Stettler cemetery and the floral wreaths were so numerous and beautiful that it was necessary to use a truck to carry them on. The pallbearers were all doctors: Dr. Allen of Edmonton, and Stettler's five doctors, Staples, Callbeck, Connolly, Goodhand and Kennedy. The doctor was but 56 years of age and died very suddenly in bed without warning, from the bursting of a blood vessel in the head after retiring in apparent good health. He came from a large and prominent family and leaves a wife and the following brothers and sisters: Thomas and Kennedy, farmers of Red Willow; Harry, of Meadow Lake, Sask.; Chas. Creighton, D.D. of Toronto, editor of the Christian Guardian; John, in Calgary; Harry, Mrs. Thomas Baird, Jr., Red Willow; and Mrs. Harvey, Calgary. The late doctor came to Red Willow in 1907 before there was a railway in that district and in 1910 he moved to Stettler. That year he ran on the Conservative ticket against Robert Shaw. He was of a very quiet, retiring disposition and a slave to his profession, never refusing a call, regardless of the weather, fighting blizzards and storms of all kinds, especially in the early days when there were no roads or fences to guide him. He was always in demand and never left his patients long enough to take a holiday, but went on long drives on many occasions when he was completely worn out. There probably never has been a man in this district who was any wider known or who utterly disregarded his own welfare as much as the late doctor did in order to serve the people, and his memory will always be fresh in the midst of the people of this district who only too keenly feel that they have lost a friend whose place can never be filled.
