Cheraw- Dr James Perry Harrison, Cheraw physician, died at his home here at 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon after a heart attack a few minutes earlier. Doctor Harrison had suffered a heart attack several years ago. He had recovered sufficiently to return to his practice, but had been in declining health for some time. He was the son of the late Thomas Gaines and Cora Berry Harrison, and was born in Micanopy, Florida. He was reared in Greenville and was graduated from the Furman Fitting School and Furman University and the Medical College of South Carolina in 1913. He practiced medicine in Bluffton, Brunson, Garnet, Buffalo Mills and Hartsville before coming to Cheraw in 1931. He was the oldest practicing physician in the county. Doctor Harrison was closely identified with the civic and religious life of the community. He was a member and a deacon of the First Baptist Church, a past president of the Kiwanis Club, a member of Masonic Lodge No 15 in Cheraw and the Pee Dee and Chesterfield County Medical Society. His first wife, Mildred Brunson Harrison, died in 1946. Of this union, two sons survive, James Perry Harrison, Jr of Cheraw and Charles Harrison of Fort Meade, Florida. Also surviving are his wife, Miriam White Wolfe Harrison of Cheraw; one granddaughter, Pam Harrison of Ft Meade, Fla; two sisters, Mrs S S Burch and Miss Nancy Harrison of Roanoke, Va; two brothers, W B Harrison of Lakeland, Fla, and R W Harrison of Greenville, and five stepchildren, Mrs Frank Stevenson and Mrs Robert Fennel of Savannah, Ga, Mrs Denver Gaston of Carrolton, Ga, and Mrs William Digby and L G Wolfe of Atlanta. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 pm Friday from the First Baptist Church by the Rev H D McAlister. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Gardens. The State, Aug 24, 1956
