Elder, V.S., had passed away the night before about 10 o'clock. It was generally known that he had been very sick, but no one anticipated that it would prove fatal so quickly. Elder, V.S., had passed away the night before about 10 o'clock. It was generally known that he had been very sick, but no one anticipated that it would prove fatal so quickly. He had been suffering for about a month with Bright's disease, and although no hope could be assured of his permanent recovery, it was hoped that he would sufficiently recover to be out and around again. But he took a change for the worse and shortly after passed away. Dr. Elder was born October 14, 1842 in Rodgerville, Huron County, Ontario, where he received his earlier education. He afterwards attended Toronto Veterinary College, from which he graduated. After graducating, Dr. Elder took up a practice in Seaforth, Ontario, and remained there for 22 years. He was appointed Government Veterinarian in Stratford, and moved to that place, living there just previous to his coming West. In 1901 he came to Red Deer, and has lived here continuously since. In 1864 he married Miss Catherine Ross, daughter of the late Alex. Ross, of Brucefield, Ontario. They had five children, four of whom died in the east before he came west. A widow and one child survives. The funeral will take place at 1:30 o'clock tomorrow (Friday) afternoon to the Red Deer cemetery. The Red Deer Advocate, Thursday, June 9, 1904, page 1
