Description	:	Dr. Jerry Haltiwanger Cromer, 67, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, December 11, 2002, in the Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care. A native of Anderson, SC, he was a son of the late Phillip and Ethel (Tribble) Cromer. He was a graduate of Wofford College in the class of 1957 where he was a member of Blue Key and served as editor of the Old Gold and Black. He received the Master... Read More	Dr. Jerry Haltiwanger Cromer, 67, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, December 11, 2002, in the Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care. A native of Anderson, SC, he was a son of the late Phillip and Ethel (Tribble) Cromer. He was a graduate of Wofford College in the class of 1957 where he was a member of Blue Key and served as editor of the Old Gold and Black. He was commissioned Ensign in the United States Naval Reserve upon completion of Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, and served as Damage Control Officer on the destroyer, USS Dyess. He received the Master of Science degree from the University of South Carolina and the Doctor of Philosophy degree from Vanderbilt University, both in Biology. He was a member of the Vanderbilt Chapter of Sigma Xi and also of numerous other scientific and academic associations. He joined the faculty of Converse College in the Department of Biology in 1968 and served there until his retirement as emeritus faculty in 1997. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Anne Palmer Cromer of the home; sons and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey P. and Donna Coyne Cromer of Wilmington, NC, and James E. Cromer of Spartanburg; one grandson, Jonathan Wright; two step-grandsons, Kenny and Andrew Steinhilber; and two nieces, Mary Anne Canaday and Carol Louise Steer. He was predeceased by his brother, Jackson S. Cromer, and his sister, Mary Louise Campbell. Visitation was 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2002, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2002, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Dr. William L. Arthur. Interment followed in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to Mobile Meals Service, P.O. Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304; or to the Endowments of Converse College, 580 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or to Wofford College, 429 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
