Description	:	Jesse Benton Williams was the second of the six children born to Allena (Ford) and Capt. Benjamin Franklin Williams of Wabash, Indiana. His birthplace is now the Dr. James Ford Historic Home on West Hill Street, Wabash. He received his early education in the Wabash City schools. Read More	Jesse Benton Williams was the second of the six children born to Allena (Ford) and Capt. Benjamin Franklin Williams of Wabash, Indiana. His birthplace is now the Dr. James Ford Historic Home on West Hill Street, Wabash. He received his early education in the Wabash City schools. He took his pre-medical course at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana and completed his medical education at Bellevue Hospital Medical School in New York City, graduating in 1896. His year as an intern was served at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, Penn. Jesse served throughout the Spanish-American War in the Medical Department, after which he practiced medicine at Indianapolis until 1904, when he went to Kansas City, Missouri. There he taught anatomy in the veterinary college and also graduated in veterinary science. He then entered the civil service and went to work for the government in the Bureau of Animal Industry. While in this work he was in Sioux City, Iowa; Billings, Montana; Chicago, Illinois; Richmond and Norfolk, Virginia; then back to Chicago and Kansas City. Jesse was married on February 12, 1916 in Kansas City to Miss Mary Ann Fleck, a woman he had known as a girl in Wabash, Indiana, daughter of Charles and Emaline (Pontius) Fleck. They had no children. In 1919 Jesse and Mary Ann went west and purchased a farm in Riverside, Okanogan County, Washington, on the west side of the Okanogan River. Six years later they moved into Riverside and bought the Riverside Drug Store and the former bank building, moving the drug business into the latter location. "Doc Williams" was a leading citizen of his community and for 13 years he had been a member of the town council. He was a member of the O’Connor post of the Spanish-American War Veterans of Okanogan, and of the St. Agnes Catholic Church at Okanogan His wife of 23 years preceded him in death a few months prior. Jesse was a grandson of Dr. James and America (Holton) Ford of Wabash, Indiana.
