State Journal Wednesday 5 December, 1973, pg. 18: WAUKON, Iowa - Dr. John A. Farley, 94, Waukon, a former Topekan, died here Tuesday in a convalescent home where he had been transferred from a Waukon hospital Monday. He was a physician and had been on the staff in internal medicine at Santa Fe hospital in Topeka many years until 1949. He later was in private practice from 1949 to 1964 and had offices in the Mills Building at 901 Kansas. He was born January 18, 1879 at Waukon and spent his early life in Iowa and was graduated in 1906 from Iowa State University at Ames where he received a degree in pharmacy. He was graduated from the medical school at the State University of Iowa in 1912. Dr. Farley completed four years of residency at Santa Fe Hospital in Topeka before he joined the staff. While in Topeka, he lived at 1609 MacVicar. He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church while in Topeka and currently was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Waukon. He had been a member of the American Medical Assn and the Kansas Medical Society and was an honorary life member of the Shawnee Co. Medical Society. He was married to Lillian Reh February 12, 1925. She died in 1967. Survivors include 2 daughters, Mrs. Margaret Bold, Severing Park, Md. and Mrs. Mary Helen Ewen, Northbrook, Ill.; 3 sisters, Nellie Farley, Mary Farley and Kathryn Farley, all at home; and 7 grandchildren. Services will be Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Waukon with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery at Waukon. Dr. Farley will lie in state today at Hanson Funeral Home at Waukon where rosary will be recited at 8 pm today.
