PRACTICED HERE SINCE 1862 Dr. .Higbee Was Probably the Oldest Physician in This Section of the State and Retired Recently. Dr. John L. Higbee, the oldest physician in this city and probably in this section of the state, died Saturday morning at his home, 221 North Court street. The funeral services were held at the Christian Church Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J.M. Vawter. , Dr. Higbee was born in Syracuse, N. Y., August 27, 1816 and was nearly 94 years old. On December 4, 1837, he married Mrs. Elizabeth M. DeDunnah, who died several years ago. Ten children were born to this union, four of whom are living,—Dr. George Higbee of this city, Mrs. Phoebe Fordyce of Michigan, Mrs. .Anna Ernest of Arkansas and Mrs. Lena Wanwe of Denver. There is also a brother, Chas. Higbee of California. Dr. Higbee moved to Sullivan in 1862, coming from Ohio and continued the practice of medicine until a few years ago, when he retired on account of his advancing years.
