In 1883, his brother, Hiram Price, in Washington, D.C., Commissioner of Indian Affairs, secured for him the post of Agency Physician at Quinault. He was a man of considerable education, and famed as a physician and surgeon. He was a High Mason, and established Masonic lodges at various places - one in Deer Lodge, Montana. He had crossed the plains in the California gold rush days, where he practiced medicine and was sheriff for Mendocino County and, as such, led raids against Indians. He adopted and raised two small Indian boys. Later, he came to Oregon, Montana, and Washington. Dr. Price was badly afflicted with asthma and got relief by moving from place to place, which accounted for his many moves. There were four Price children: Ben, Leonard, Winnie (who died in infancy), and Wayne." He was a physician in Chehalis County (now Grays Harbor), Washington, license year 1886 - Physicians, 1872-1941.
