Joyce, Health Officer of Annapolis for fifteen years, died at the University Hospital, Baltimore, last night from septic laryngitis. Joyce, Health Officer of Annapolis for fifteen years, died at the University Hospital, Baltimore, last night from septic laryngitis. He was taken ill at his home, 197 Prince George Street, a week ago and was removed to the Baltimore hospital on Wednesday. Dr. Joyce was a member of a prominent county family. He was a son of the late Cyrus N. Joyce, and Mrs. Joyce, of Joyces-on-Severn. He was educated in the local public schools and St. John's College, taking his medical degree at the University of Maryland. In addition to his duties as city health officer, which included the inspection of dairies supplying Annapolis, Dr. Joyce was the county examiner for oyster employees. He was a member of the local Rotary Club, Moose, Elks and Masons, and was a member of the staff of the Emergency Hospital. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Kate McShane Joyce, a daughter, Miss Katherine Joyce, three brothers: Dr. Burch Joyce and Dr. John C. Joyce, of Baltimore, and C. N. Joyce, Jr., of Joyces-on-Severn and two sisters, Mrs. Walter M. Munroe, Joyces-on Severn, and Mrs. R. Tilghman Brice. Mayor Walter E. Quenstedt appointed Dr. J. J. Murphy temporary health officer until the City Council can fill the vacancy. He also ordered the flags on all municipal buildings flown at half staff until after Dr. Joyce's funeral. The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from the residence. Burial in Cedar Bluff cemetery.
