Ottumwa Courier November 5, 1946 Dr. Krafka, Former Ottumwan, Is Dead Dr. Joseph Krafka Jr., former Ottumwan, died Tuesday morning in Augusta, Georgia. Dr. Krafka was born in Ottumwa August 14, 1890, the son of Joseph and Marie Krafka. He is survived by his wife, Bess, a son, Lieut. Joseph F. Krafka in the Army Medical Corps, a daughter Mrs. Norman Freeman, LaGrange Georgia, and three grandchildren. Four sisters, Mrs. William Wright, Mrs. A. M. Woodell, and Mrs. William Cudworth of Ottumwa, and Miss Elizabeth Krafka of Bay City, Michigan, and two brothers, Henry and Walter Krafka of Ottumwa, also survive. Dr. Krafka spent his early years in Ottumwa, and took his college work at Lake Forest and the University of Illinois, and graduate work at the University of Georgia. Since that time he has been a member of the medical faculty at the University of Georgia. He also took a Dr. of Philosophy degree in zoology, and headed this department at the University for several years. Dr. Krafka is mentioned in the Who's Who in America, because of his published medical text and research papers. He was a member of the American Men of Science, the Foundation of Georgia Academy of Science, and the honorary scientific fraternity Sigma Phi. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Funeral services were held in Augusta today. The body will be brought to Ottumwa for burial, and will arrive Thursday night. Burial services will be held in the Shaul cemetery at 10:30 AM Friday. The Rev. C. R. Reed, pastor of The Willard Street Methodist Church, will be in charge. Nephews will act as pallbearers.
