Bierlein, 87, of 812 S. Catalpa, died at 10:40 p.m., Sunday, July 31, 1994, at Medicalodge South, where he had been a resident since 1991. He had been a long-time Pittsburg physician. He was born Oct. 21, 1906, in Sargent County, N.D., to John D. and Evelyn M. Woodhouse Bierlein. He graduated from Groton, S.D., High School, received his B.A.B.S. from the University of South Dakota, and his medical degree from Northwestern University. He interned at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. He attended Northwestern Fellow-American College of Allergists and Medical Clerkship in Shriners Crippled Children’s Hospital in Chicago, Ill. He married Medrith Sollner July 1, 1933, in Kansas City, Mo. They moved to Arma in 1933 where he practiced medicine until 1945 when they moved to Pittsburg, and he established his office there. His wife preceded him in death Oct. 2, 1993. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Arma Masonic Lodge, Pittsburg Chapter 58, Montjoie Commandery, Independence Council, Scottish Rite of Ft. Scott, Mirza Shrine and was a past potentate, elected in 1957. He was an honorary member of the director's staff. He was a member of the Crestwood Country Club, Friday Night Dinner Club and a former member of the Rotary Club. He was a past Exalted Ruler of BPOE Elks Lodge No. 412 in 1953 and also a member of the S. W. Allergy Forum, and American College of Allergists. Survivors include one son, John D. Bierlein of Wilmington, Del.; one daughter, Marcia B. Green of Falls Church, Va.; one sister, Mildred Hale of Gladstone, Mich.; and two grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger Noah of College Heights United Methodist Church officiating. Eulogies will be given by William Sollner and James Belew. Mr. Bierlein's body will be cremated, and the cremains will be buried at a later date.
