TOWNSMAN DEAD Dr. Lester Hunkins Plaisted Mourned By A Large Circle of Friends -- Funeral Yesterday Lancaster learned with surprise on Monday of the death of Lester Hunkins Plaisted, called suddenly that forenoon to join the many other young doctors and dentists of Lancaster who in past years have been cut down in the prime of life. Only those close to the home knew that Dr. Plaisted was ill. He was first taken ill on Monday evening but continued in his office until Wednesday when advised by his physian, Dr. W.M. Bronson, to remain at home. On Friday it seemed best that he enter the hospital but not until Saturday did his condition take a serious turn. At that time he commenced to fail rapidly, death occurring at mid-forenoon, Sunday, of acute Bright's Disease. Dr. Plaisted entered the dental offices of Dr. W.M. Thompson, about two years ago, but in those two years he came to be a part of the community, not merely because of the skill that marked his professional work but because of an unusual disposition and a pleasing personality that seemed to make instant friendships. He was congenial, kind, friendly and loyal. Such a man wins friends and holds them. Lester Plaisted was a North Country boy, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Hunkins Plaisted of Jefferson, and born in 1889. His early youth was passed in that town but later he went to Concord and was there graduated from the high school. He completed his studies in the Tufts Dental College in 1912 and for five years, with his only brother, Dr. Harold Plaisted, conducted offices jointly in Boston and Concord. The World War, however, interrupted a career thus promisingly started. He enlisted in the medical corps as a dentist but his actual war experience was amid shot and shell. He was attached to a machine gun battalion and was on the front line fighting in many of the bitterest struggles of the war. He was in actual overseas service for 19 months and it was but fitting that yesterday, the stars and stripes draped his casket and that fellow buddies of the Legion should sound taps at his grave in Jefferson. On his return from overseas he again took up his profession and opened offices in Manchester. On April 30, 1925, he married Marjorie Atwood in Manchester, a dental hygienist in his office, who with two beautiful children, Jane, five, and Benjamin, three, survive. Dr. Plaisted answered the lures of the hills of his boyhood about two years ago and came to Lancaster to associate himself with Dr. Thompson. He was a member of North Star Blue Lodge, North Star Chapter and Lodge of Perfection. He had been a member of Bektash Temple for 11 years. He was a member of the Arthur Mahaney Post, A.L., and of the Lancaster Rotary Club. In each of these organizations his fellowship and friendliness are to be missed. Dr. Plaisted is survived by his parents, widow and two children, and the brother, Dr. Harold Plaisted of Concord. Yesterday afternoon at the home, the services were conducted by Rev. Richard P. McClintock and interment was in the Plaisted family lot in Jefferson with military honors.
